The Xi Xi Chapters at the University of Louisville.

There were two chapters at the University of Louisville.

The first Xi Xi Chapter at Louisville was founded in 1911. The Xi Xi was legitimate and chartered by the United National. It was a normally prosperous chapter. The Chapter volunteered to host what proved to be a momentous 1925 convention. The Xi Xi was manipulated by the National Secretary, Powell, into believing that his move to make the society an "open" one would mean that membership would be open to all undergraduates of the university regardless of their field of study. Powell, as mentioned in the society history, intended “open” to mean for chapters to function as full four-year fraternities. The implication of the record is that Powell fully understood the difference and intended to exploit the confusion.

The Convention was held and the society split over the issue of becoming a four-year fraternity. The Xi Xi Louisburg Chapter itself was expelled from the society and joined a group of expelled chapters called the Sophomore Keys, (of which Xi Xi was the fourth, or Delta Chapter).

The National under Powell created a new Xi Xi chapter to replace the one that had left the society, and gave a charter to a local Louisburg society, Alpha Omega Rho, in 1928. The new Xi Xi was clearly meant to convey the impression that the old Xi Xi was a partner in the change of the society. The chapter went back and forth on its claim to having been founded in 1911 instead of 1928. The chapter was not long lived, and was last known about 1935.
