Alpha Beta Chapters at the University of Buffalo, (S.U.N.Y. Buffalo).
There were two Alpha Beta Chapters at Buffalo. The first Alpha Beta Chapter was chartered at Buffalo on July 3, 1914. It was a legitimate chapter, having been chartered by the Smull National. The chapter may have been a medical school chapter only, since the undergraduate college was not officially created until January 16, 1915, (the Main Campus at Main & Bailey had not been built at this time). The chapter thrived through the teens and twenties, though it appears to have not sent delegate to the national conventions after the war in 1918. When the Powell National created a four-year fraternity chapter at Buffalo with the traditional Alpha Beta Chapter already on campus, the legitimate Alpha Beta Chapter changed its name to The Skulls. The Skulls was last known, ca. 1930.
The second Alpha Beta Chapter was created in 1924, and is considered to have been a legitimate chapter, having been chartered by the Madden National, (although there already was a legitimate chapter on campus since 1914.) The act of creating a new chapter of ‘brothers’ amenable to your plans while an older chapter of ‘brothers’ already exists on campus is something, the honor of which, speaks for itself. The second Alpha Beta Chapter naturally chose the fraternity faction in the 1925 split. But then it took a precipitous fall, and was last known, ca. 1928.
