The Psi & Alpha Eta Chapters at Ohio State University.
There were two chapters at Ohio State. The Psi Chapter at Ohio State University was founded in 1893. It was a legitimate chapter, chartered by Alpha Chapter. The chapter was a traditional one, and was driven from the society during the 1913-16 Interfraternity Conflict. The Psi Chapter became independent and reorganized as the Skull & Crescent society in 1924. It may or may not still be active. In 1931, the Skull & Crescent at Ohio State united with another former Theta Nu Epsilon chapter at Purdue University, and Skull & Crescent became a two chapter society. With the authentic Psi Chapter having been forced to abandon the Theta Nu Epsilon name because it remained true to its traditions, it was possible for the less than scrupulous National Secretary Powell to ‘create’ a new Ohio State chapter as a four year fraternity. Which it did in 1928. The Alpha Eta Chapter was founded at Ohio State University on May 19, 1928. It was created as a full four-year fraternity chapter by the national at that time. It was the Alpha Eta Chapter was made from a local fraternity chapter called Delta Kappa Theta; (that local was founded June 2, 1921). There is one reference to this chapter as the Alpha Epsilon, probably mistaken. The chapter house was at 87 Fourteenth Avenue. The chapter declined from the outset, and reported a strong drop in membership : 1929, 24 members and pledges; 1930, 21 members and pledges; 1931, 15 members and pledges. By the summer of 1931, the chapter folded.
