The Nu Nu Chapters at Marquette University.

The Nu Nu Chapter at Marquette University was a legitimate chapter, founded about 1911, and was chartered by United National. Having a chapter at Marquette was recommended by the Zeta Phi chapter. The Nu Nu chapter was very much a white tie and tails kind of society. It seems to have existed largely among the law students at first, but then to have become a general undergraduate society, (legal education was not confined to graduate study at this time). Since this was the home chapter of Perry O. Powell, it is no surprise that the Nu Nu Chapter was a part of the four- year fraternity section in the 1925 society split.

Nevertheless, for some reason the chapter had to be replaced in 1929 with a new Nu Nu. That chapter had a stromy career with its founder, and it was suspended in 1931 because “it got too independent.” It lived for five more years on its own.

Important research contributions to this article were made by John B. Kendrick.
