The Delta Chapter at the Cornell University.
The Delta Chapter at Cornell University was founded in 1877. The Chapter was legitimate since it was chartered directly by the Alpha Chapter. The Delta Chapter was a strong one, and it played an active role in the Original Conventions of the society. However, there were some problems in the early years, and from about 1887 to 1892 the chapter continued but did not thrive. With the return of the fuller forms of initiation, the New York Times noted that “the campus has been the scene of many ludicrous performances in the past few days.” The Chapter dropped from society affairs in 1905, but again returned in 1907. The senior society Skull was founded in 1904, and it appears that while the chapter reorganized itself as the Skull, it still maintained its ties to the society for the next several years. The Chapter was driven from the society in 1913, as a class society, and it is not known what happened to the chapter afterwards. A beautiful and distinctive society locket was in the archives of the university until the latter 1980’s, and appeared later on eBay.
